SEE WHY IT WORKS

The Program Families Remember

Watch the program come to life, read the original Aspen explanation of the Cognasium approach and see the benefits families have noticed.

"My mother-in-law is 92 with severe dementia. She has attended Aspen Senior Center for over 2 1/2 years. She thrives at the center. She is engaged in fun activities all day that help keep her brain active and her body moving. The staff is so caring and understanding. Most of all she loves going each day and it helps to give her a sense of purpose. It also gives us a most needed break from the demands of caring for her at home. We feel so grateful to have her there. If you have a loved one who could benefit from this service I highly recommend that you give them a call".

- Wayne B.

"My Dad has been going to the day center for 5 years now. They genuinely care for their clients. My Dad really looks forward to going there."

- Amandalina C.

"This place has been a gift for my husband. He has great friends, activities, food and exercise! He loves to go there five days a week. He loves the staff and they love him! What more could one ask for!!"

- Saundra C.

The Cognasium Approach

We have fully adopted the Cognasium Approach for seniors. Cognasium means “gymnasium for the brain” or doing those things which help our brains stay as active and healthy as possible. There are four parts to this approach: mental stimulation, physical activity, good nutrition, and active socialization. Many seniors and the elderly stay at home, watch TV, and let their brains go dormant. Our brains are like muscles - if we don’t use them, we can lose them.

Here are the benefits families have seen in their loved ones:

  1. Enhanced positive mood and outlook on life

  2. Slowed progression of dementia and memory challenges

  3. Improved social and verbal abilities

  4. Enhanced memory through reminiscing and socializing

  5. Stimulated mental activity through games, puzzles, and crafts

  1. Increased physical activity, strength and blood flow

  2. Improved art skills and abilities

  3. Enjoying time with new friends

  4. Increased appetite and nutrition (we all eat better when we eat with others)

  5. Boosted self-esteem through celebration of life and accomplishments

As with school, the more we attend, the better we do. No senior needs “daycare,” but all seniors need mental stimulation, physical activity, good nutrition, and social interaction. Quality of life is important to all of us. At Aspen Senior Daycare Center we help seniors live life more fully. An added benefit is the respite we provide to family caregivers who desperately deserve it and need it.

WHEN DAYS CHANGE

When Home Is Still Where They Belong

- But the Days Are Getting Harder

Maybe your loved one is spending more time alone, becoming less active, forgetting routines, or needing more support than one person can provide. Maybe you are trying to balance work, family, appointments, and constant worry.

More Time Alone

Mom may be safe at home, but the hours feel long when there are fewer people to talk with and fewer reasons to get moving.

More Structure Needed

Dad may need meals, reminders, activity, and routine during the same hours you need to work or manage your own household.

More Safety Worries

Falls, stumbling, wandering, confusion, or missed routines can make every errand or workday feel like a risk.

More Than One Person Can Carry

Wanting to keep a loved one at home does not mean you have to provide every hour of support alone.

"During that period of time I know he is safe and happy - and I am free to come and go without the fear that he will wander."

- Miguel A., Family Caregiver

A SUPPORT FOR BOTH SIDES OF THE FAMILY

More Good Days for Them.

More Breathing Room for You.

Senior daycare can support both sides of the family: helping your loved one stay engaged, connected, and active while giving you time to work, rest, and manage life, which makes long-term caregiving more sustainable.

For Your Loved One

  • A familiar daytime routine

  • Friendships and conversation

  • Music, art, games, movement, and shared meals

  • Meaningful participation at their own pace

  • Come home happy with something to talk about

For You

  • Time to work, run errands, or attend appointments

  • Relief from constant daytime worry

  • Space to rest and protect your own health

  • Support that can help family caregiving last longer

  • A chance to be a daughter, son, or spouse again - not only a caregiver

"This wonderful care center has given my mom purpose and joy in her life and has given me the break I need, as well as peace of mind knowing my mom is happy enjoying activities with her peers."

- Daughter of a happy client

THE RHYTHM OF THE DAY

Days To Look Forward To

From familiar faces in the morning to music, movement, shared meals, creativity, and conversation, each day is designed to bring structure, connection, and moments of joy.

MORNING

A Warm Welcome

Arrival should feel personal, not clinical. Participants are greeted by familiar faces, settle into a comfortable routine, and begin the day around people who know them.

MID-MORNING

Move, Think, and Engage

Gentle movement, cognitive games, discussions, and group activities give participants ways to join in at their own ability level. The goal is not to keep people busy - it is to help them feel included.

LUNCH

Good Food, Shared With Friends

Nutritious meals and snacks are part of the daily program. The activity tables also help create space for conversations, companionship, and a break from isolation at home.

AFTERNOON

Create, Laugh, Remember

Music, art, reminiscence, familiar songs, games, and hobbies create openings for memory, expression, humor, and connection. Sometimes a song or a simple art project says what words cannot.

END OF DAY

Going Home With Something to Share

After a day with people, structure, and meaningful moments, your loved one returns home to family life. Many families say the center helps their loved one feel happier and more connected.

"It's a fantastic place for folks with dementia...my wife comes out smiling every day."

- Hyde M.

Care From Aides We Trust With Our Own Families

Aspen's long-standing philosophy is simple: choose those who they would trust with their own family members. Families need more than a list of services. They need to know who will be there, how support is provided, and that their loved one will be treated with patience, dignity, and genuine care.
