Where do personal care agencies fit in the health care industry?
Personal care agencies, sometimes refered to as home care agencies, are different from home health agencies and hospoice agencies; yet they work closely together to address many of the needs of our elderly population.

Personal care agencies, like Aspen Senior Care, should be licensed with their state health department and carry liability insurance as well as workers compensation for their aides or caregivers. These agencies do all things non-medical to help seniors stay safe and comfortable at home (wherever home happens to be).

For the most part Medicare does not cover these non-medical needs. Home health agencies can send an aide out for up to 3 three times per week to assist with personal care and maybe a bit more. But, personal care agencies are there to provide assisted living services any time day or night. These services include housekeeping, personal care (bathing, grooming, toileting, personal hygiene, etc.), companionship (reading, visiting, games, exercise, etc.), transportation (doctor visits, grocery runs, errands, etc.), and so forth.

Some clients need help through the night. Other clients have spouses or children who need a break and we assist for a few hours one or several times a week. We have many clients who say they don't know how they'd do it without us. We are grateful for their gratitude and their willingness to let us serve their needs.

Home health and hospice agencies provide a number of needed services in the ome as well including medical attention, pain management, prescription delivery and assistance, social work and counseling, physical therapy and much more. Working together we can help seniors enjoy their homes and their family and friends through the final years of their lives.

Tammy Plett says:

Many people that call us in the office are confused at what they want, what to expect and where to get the help that they need. After explaining the difference between a home health company and a personal care company, they are relieved to know that they can pick their own hours and have someone come when it is needed, not when it is convenient for the company. We get to schedule caregivers according to the need and personality of the client. We match these two things so that we have happy clients and happy caregivers. We have some of the best clients in the valley to work with!
